Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing allows you to fully communicate the functional requirements of your design, advising the manufacturer of the maximum amount of allowable deviation while still producing a viable component. Applying well thought out and appropriate GD&T correctly results in lower scrap rates, reduced component cost and improved functionality.
Conventional Dimensioning – Engineering drawings are an engineer’s way of communicating the components' requirements to the manufacturer. The drawing highlights each individual feature describing what level of variation is acceptable.
The level of allowable variation is normally identified by standard linear based dimensions with a tolerance range, giving the manufacture a target to achieve.
Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing - Enables an engineer to express their requirements with a greater level of precision, enabling the component to be controlled in FORM / ORIENTATION / POSITIONING.
