Why metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform?

Additive Manufacturing is delivering real business benefits as it secures its place in mainstream manufacturing. But what do you need to know if you have not yet evaluated the technology? What software tools are available? Which processes need to change and what has changed since your last review? Taking your first steps may not be as difficult as you might expect, with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Intrinsys is working with Renishaw to ensure that the evaluation and development of metal additive manufacturing in your business is as easy and productive as it can be, supporting an optimised validation process.

The Platform Advantage

High Tech 3DEXPERIENCE Solutions: Supplier Collaboration

Maintain One Data Set

The platform maintains one data set across design, development and manufacturing functions within an affordable and intuitive tool. All the stakeholders in the business can be part of the projects and view progress in real time, enabling you to simplify processes within the virtual environment prior to committing to print.

High Tech 3DEXPERIENCE Solutions: Supplier Collaboration

Use Familiar Tools

Using familiar tools from the CATIA, SIMULIA and DELMIA brands, you can spend as much time as you need experiencing and assimilating the technology. From optimised generative design, to simulation & analysis, to detailed simulation of the manufacture on a digital twin of the actual printer hardware.

Compare Methods

AM is not for every product so the 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows you to compare and contrast the pros and cons of a number of manufacturing methods, giving you all the information you need to make the right manufacturing decision for each component, all before a single part is printed.

Validate Additive Manufacturing in a digital virtual environment

1) Function-Driven Generative Design

Generative Design is the perfect launch pad for an Additive Manufacturing (AM) part, producing the lightest components to meet the engineering requirement. The optimised output design can be easily validated against a range of manufacturing methods to select the best solution for you.

2) Process Planning

Once AM has been selected then the part, with all its data, can be added to the virtual build plate of your chosen printer and the manufacturing process defined. Automated nesting options make sure multi-part print runs are optimised and you may choose from a library of native supports and laser scan paths to best suit your part.

3) Virtual Printing

Simulating the entire print process couldn’t be easier on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. One dataset and a guided assistant take you, one step at a time, through the build process to produce high confidence results. It allows you to avoid part distortions and residual stresses while minimising execution time and retaining all the necessary information in a safe virtual environment.

4) Post-Processing

Post processing functionality allows you to optimise the build process even further. Support structures require post print removal and some parts require additional finishing procedures, all of which may be simulated to allow the best option to be taken. Finally, part in service simulation can be carried out and all before a single part is actually printed.

Discover the Roles

Print when you are ready to print

Introduction a new manufacturing method has its associated cost.  It’s therefore essential that you fully understand how you will integrate technology and process, upskill your workforce and iron out as many potential issues as you can, as early as possible.

This is where Renishaw’s Solution centre comes into it’s own. It provides a complete development environment prior to role out within your own business.

Introducing Renishaw's Solution Centres

‘A hub for innovative ideas and exciting projects, around additive manufacturing’

Renishaw Solutions Centres provide a secure development environment in which you can build your knowledge and confidence using metal additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Equipped with the latest AM systems and staffed with knowledgeable engineers, the Solutions Centres offer you a fast and accessible way to rapidly deploy this exciting technology in your business.

Renishaw and Intrinsys will support you throughout your investigation and business case development process helping you to explore the software tools, optimise your design, build your confidence in the process, and gain the evidence you need to make investment decisions. Including some level of finishing is generally required to produce functional products. Intrinsys and Renishaw’s knowledge of metrology, machining and finishing processes can assist you to develop an integrated manufacturing solution.
