Microsoft Windows 10 Compatibility with 3DEXPERIENCE

Dassault Systèmes (DS) have certified various levels of CATIA V5, CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE and various other DS applications on Microsoft Windows 10. However, what is not obvious is that it is only certified on certain build levels of Windows 10.

This means that if you allow your Windows 10 to update automatically, or if your local IT department push out Windows 10 on your behalf, this could potentially be harmful to your DS applications.

The Operating System (OS) requirements are outlined in the Program Directory for each version/release of CATIA and other various Dassault Systèmes’ applications. This information can be found in the online program directory at https://www.3ds.com/support/documentation/program-directories/

1. Select the application and level then select Go

2. Login to your DS account

3. Once the program directory loads, confirm your application, level and service pack/fix pack level

4. Browse to HW&SW requirements and Platform Support Policy

Don’t forget that hardware requirements are equally as important, and users are always advised to ensure the correct hardware requirements are also met. The hardware requirements can be found at http://www.3ds.com/support/certified-hardware/.

For example, if the user is using 3DEXPERIENCE 2018x FP1822, only the following OS’s are supported and take extra note of the applicable update / build levels:

  • Windows 7 64-bit SP1 Professional with April, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4015549) or above Rollup is a Compatible Platform
  • Windows 7 64-bit SP1 Enterprise with April, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4015549) or above Rollup is a Qualified Platform
  • Windows 8.1 64-bit Pro with April, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB4015550) or above is a Compatible Platform
  • Windows 8.1 64-bit Enterprise with April, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB4015550) or above is a Compatible Platform
  • Windows 8.1 Update 64-bit Pro with April, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB4015550) or above is a Compatible Platform
  • Windows 8.1 Update 64-bit Enterprise with April, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB4015550) or above is a Compatible Platform
  • Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 1607 (x64) is a Compatible Platform
  • Windows 10 Pro, Version 1607 (x64) is a Compatible Platform
  • Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 1703 (x64) is a Validated Platform
  • Windows 10 Pro, Version 1703 (x64) is a Compatible Platform

Particular care is required when purchasing new PCs or laptops which may be delivered with a new Windows 10 build that is not certified. It is best to confirm with the vendor which Operating System and build level will be supplied on delivery. If you have upgraded recently to a higher build number, you can roll back the update within 10 days, otherwise you will have to perform a reinstall of windows. Please see the following article from Microsoft:

Failing to adhere to the correct OS and build number requirements may result in reduced performance, unforeseen bugs and various other effects that may negatively impact the user experience. Additionally, if you are entitled to DS support, requests may not be processed if the DS software is not being used on a certified platform.

If you would like more information or are unable to access the above information, please submit a support ticket to support@intrinsys.com stating the Dassault Systèmes application, version and release level you would like to obtain the information for.
