Former national rally champions, Roger Duckworth and Mark Broomfield, are gearing up for a busy 2011 write Colin and James Beckett.
The duo will start the new season at the beginning of February, when they will tackle the opening BTRDA event of the season – the Wyedean Forest Rally. Former winners of the Chepstow-based Wyedean, Duckworth from Whittlebury and Broomfield from Blakesley will start the Forest of Dean rally as one of the leading crews on the event.
At the wheel in their Integral Powertrain Subaru Impreza WRC, the pairing will aim for success on the popular season-opener before switching their attack away from BTRDA events and other national rallies.
Rallye Sunseeker is regarded within the sport as one of Britain’s finest special stage rallies, and this also takes place in February.
Duckworth and Broomfield will compete in the national super car section of the Bournemouth-based rally that for 2011 marks its debut as the opening round of the British Rally Championship.
Eleven special stages will make up Rallye Sunseeker and the longer distance of national ranking events are certainly a draw for Duckworth, who comments, “The Wyedean is a great rally – we have enjoyed competing on the rally before, and hope for a good performance this year, but when I go rallying on a Saturday I want to drive all day and not finish by mid afternoon.”
The BTRDA rallies traditionally run a shorter distance, and are aimed at clubman competitors, although it is widely recognised that the standard of competition is high. Duckworth adds, “I wouldn’t rule us out of other BTRDA events after the Wyedean, there are some of series’ events we have yet to contest, but the longer length rallies are more enjoyable to me.”
